I have version 2.5, I got it off of Craigs list locally.

Its incredible. But if you do it get the DVD tutorial. Its not that hard to figure out with some help, but without a walk-through I would have been lost. Its not that hard to add in the synth parts and really build a nice track. I am nowhere near using it to its potential.

I use mine to practice with. I have a JMP-1 that hooks into the computer, and I build tracks in Reason and play out through an Onkyo amp into JBL monitors. Mostly I use it with Sennheiser headphones.

I can't offer you a comparison to other brands of this type of software. I was looking for something to create a basic drum track, and this popped up online for cheap so I snagged it. I haven't played with a drum machine since pre-1990, so you can imagine my jaw hitting the floor after a few hours with this thing. The shear number of patches, and the ability to accent is just amazing.

At some point I need to figure out how to record, but so far just wacking away on practice tracks has been very satisfying.

Check out the Reason Drum Kits Refill if you get the full version. There's some great sounding multi-sampled drums in there.
