New March 2009: have Metroamp assemble your kit!

Post by VelvetGeorge » Mon Mar 23, 2009 3:01 pm

We are happy to announce that can now assemble your amp kit for you! See store listings.

Have your kit professionally assembled, burned in and final tested for $400 USD.

Curt is handling assembly and I'll do all the final testing and listening personally. Many people have asked for this over years and we can finally offer it.

+1! That's an amazing price. A hand-built, boutique JTM45 for less than $1400? Are you kidding me? I think you're going to sell a *lot* of these amps...

Could we ship parts to you? I've already got my iron, caps, and plexi knobs. Though, I'll need to special order some PEC pots to make sure the linear and audio tape match that of a 2203. And I'm looking at ordering some Buchschlag MF resistors.

Can't speak for Metro because I don't work for George, but it would only make sense the assembly price is for his in-store kits/options only.

If you're piecing together your own amp, it's your gig baby!

All they're doing is charging to put the parts together. I don't see what it would matter if I'm using A tranny or B tranny or different caps. It goes together the same way. I'm looking at the 2203 kit George is making, except I've got my own trannys and caps, and probably resistors.

This will be only for the stock kits for right now. We will need to ramp this up, slowly at first. And Curt will be relying on the instructions a bit at first too.

Once he is cranking them out from memory, we will consider other stuff.

I think this is great too but I'm curious, essentially how is having you guys assemble one of your kits any different than buying a prebuilt one off the page?

I love the idea I'm just confused because an assembed metro amp is 2500 and an assembled metro kit is like 1500. Whats the difference other than I'm assuming George not assembling them himself? Is the 1500 a lesser quality amp or the 2500 one a higher quality amp? Sorry I just had to ask

Excellent question, I was asking myself the same thing. Like for example can I get the 12 series made by just buying the kit and paying 400 bucks more?

Simple to figure out.

George has an employee do the build according to specs/layout. George is double checking the final installation, wiring, testing and any potential troubleshooting/biasing/etc. The employee gets "on the job" experience and creates another potential profit center for the company.

The ideal situation is to clone yourself as much as possible to maximize your company's potential. If you run as a one man shop, you can't take on as much work. At least that's how it looks to me.
