Re: Specs of the 100 watt kit
There never was a '68 kit available. The standard kit is '69 spec. It's not difficult to tweak though.
So I like purple, okay!!!!!!

Re: Specs of the 100 watt kit
Can you tell me the main difference between 68 specs and 69 ? Technical and tonewise ?
Thanks

Re: Specs of the 100 watt kit
These are the basic specs that most guys use on the EVH style 12*** series '68's. Lifted straight from Rockstah.
330u/820 - .68u/820 split cathode
.0022u bright channel coupling cap
330u/820 v2a
33k/500p tone stack - 500p on the bright channel mix resistor
.1u in the phase inverter ( output coupling caps)
47k feedback resistor on the speaker tap ( 16 ohm feedback )
dual 16u preamp
32u PI cap
16u screens
50u mains
'69 amps are a little brighter sounding, and a bit more classic rock.

Re: Specs of the 100 watt kit
Just to be picky Daymz but the spec you quoted is an EVH tribute amp rather than one Marshall actually put out :
'68 Superlead
Split cathode V1 (820R/0.68uF and 820R/330uF)
0.0022uF first coupler the rest 0.022uF except single 0.1uF in PI input
0.68uF bypass cap on V2a (330uF is a mod.)
500pF mixer bypass cap, 33k/500pF tone stack
32/32 preamp dual axial filter can (earlier amps occasionally had dual 20uF)
40 or 48uF PI filtering (single radial cap up top, mine has 16/32 can bridged for 48uF)
16uF screens (two axial 32uF in series on cap board, some escaped with 50uF via two 100uFs in series)
50uF mains filtering ( two axail 100uF in series on cap board, some amps seem to have radial cans ?original?)
Dagnall C 1998 OT
47k NFB resistor on 8 ohm tap (usually the Superbass of the period put it on speaker jack ie variable depending on cab load)
'69 Superlead
as above but 2k7 with the 0.68 on V1
50/50uF preamp filter
50uF on screens
50uF on mains
100uF on PI
all caps up top (dual 50uF radial cans)
I believe the above to be correct, but always some anomalies.
You can build a '69 to '68 spec just by tweaking the cans (use only half the screens cans for 25uF and half the PI for 50uF. Although you would need a dual 32 radial for the preamp -feels much nicer IMO regardless of year

Re: Specs of the 100 watt kit
True, but I was being lazy and there doesn't seem to be a definitive '68 spec anyways. There's always a little variation.neikeel wrote:Just to be picky Daymz but the spec you quoted is an EVH tribute amp rather than one Marshall actually put out :
Sadly though, when anybody ever mentions a '68 SLP it always makes me think EVH, even though I'm not really a fan. Now '68 50 watters don't conjure up any such images though.

Re: Specs of the 100 watt kit
Well the 100watt is basically teh same preamp as the 50watt.
Filtering is the only difference

Re: Specs of the 100 watt kit
Please, excuse my poor knowledge on this issue, what exactly do you mean by this comment... the 50 watts is more "agressive" then the 100 watts counterpart ?demonufo wrote: ... Now '68 50 watters don't conjure up any such images though.

Re: Specs of the 100 watt kit
Not necessarily aggressive, but the 50watters are more compressed, and not as brutal impact-wise. Personally, I'm a 50watt guy myself. (Mainly because I'd have to spend vast fortunes updating my stash of NOS pairs to incorporate some roughly matched quads. )

Re: Specs of the 100 watt kit
Yep... I once had a 100w (DSL) and you have to think twice when comes the time of retubing. In fact, I kinda jumped when I saw that the 100W kit and the 50W kits are almost the same price, there at least a 2 power tubes difference, yet it doesn't show on the price tag.demonufo wrote:Not necessarily aggressive, but the 50watters are more compressed, and not as brutal impact-wise. Re: Specs of the 100 watt kit
Hey Stretchy,
It is David from MetroAmp.
We are well aware that the math doesn't add up on the difference of the kits.
The 100w should cost MORE.
Our costs have gone up on almost every component, but we are still trying to keep the cost down for the amp builder.
As part of the restructuring George and I are in the process of looking at costs of everything.
We sell WAY more 100w kits, so we have been trying to keep the price the same and not raise it to where it should be.
