Recent server issues May 2013
Hey everyone, sorry for the recent issues here. The server that hosts metroamp.com, forum.metroamp.com and plexireplicas.com needed some attention. After several days dealing with support and rebooting I think we have it stable again.
I'm cautiously optimistic and watching it closely.
Advertisers here will be owed a pro-rated refund for downtime. I'll sort out how to calculate that amount and process your refunds in the next few days.
Sorry for the trouble.

I don't need no stinking refund. But you're only getting 11 drinks at the LA AMP Show instead of your usual 12.

Thanks for the update George. I am sure our employers appreciate the Metroamp forum downtime.

I'm still seeing that new users are getting errors when trying to sign up and some members are not able to post. Bear with me guys, I'll get it sorted. Sorry for the trouble.

George, check for bugs too! A couple of times recently here at work, I have had trojans try to invade my computer. Ran the virus scan/cleaner and found trojans traced to metroamp.com! Luckily my work has really good firewall and anti-virus programs...and our head I.T. guy plays guitar or else metroamp would be blocked! I have had these bugs crash my lap top at home, again traced to metroamp.

Yes there are still some server issues. When you click post, you get a error message unless you log on.
Also this link still has a virus,
I saved it in my favorites and go back and read it sometimes.

Re: Recent server issues May 2013
I know it may sound idiot, but I think you should use Linux for servers, my buddy had a lot of problems with windows server,
he now use Debian and it's rock solid for like 2 years
Plus you will get less viruses / trojan
(cause there is less virus on linux, probably because it's a less popular platform than windows)
But be careful not all distribution are equals
(Debian is one of the most stable with a lot of testing before going into the stable version
Good luck

Good news and progress ro report. The database has been rebuilt and backed up. The forum software is updated to the latest release. Tony tried a test sign up and said it worked. He is searching for infections and anything malicious. We should be able to have everything back to normal and safe very soon.

Re: Recent server issues May 2013
My Norton Internet Security intercepted an intrusion attempt to when I used the board navigating tools located just above the banner. I was in the Do It Yourself forum and selected the Board index (i.e. Board index > Amplifiers, Kits, Parts and Tech > Do It Yourself amp builds) and Norton popped up with an intrusion attempt from Blackhole Toolkit Website 35. Normally I always use the board navigating tool down at the bottom of the web page (the "Jump To:" edit box), but for some reason I tried the top navigator. Details from Norton are as follows:
IPS Alert Name: Blackhole Toolkit Website 35
Defualt Action: No Action Required.
Action Taken: No Action Required.
Attacking Computer: stirlingassynt.co.uk(74.86.164.120,80)
Attacker URL: stirlingassynt.co.uk/7b9fefe8972dd98173fa9b3dfe2e0d0c/q.php
Destination Address: USER1-PC
Source Address: 74.86.164.120(74.86.164.120)
Traffic Description: TCP,www-http
Additional Info: Network traffic from stirlingassynt.co.uk/7b9fefe8972dd98173fa9b3dfe2e0d0c/q.php matches the signature of a known attack. The attack was resulted from \DEVICE\HARDDISKVOLUME3\PROGRAM FILES (X86)\INTERNET EXPLORER\IEXPLORER.EXE. To stop being notified for the type of traffic, in the Actions panel, click Stop Notifying Me.
So, is this a false postive for Norton, or are the gremlins still at work with the forum?
