Power out at shop, possibly for several days
Woke up to no power here today. An ice storm brought down lots of trees and power lines.
The utility company said it could take until Tuesday or longer to be restored.
I have a generator keeping the basics running. Heat, water, sump pump, fridge, freezer and a few lights.
Not sure I'll get much work done in the shop tomorrow though. Probably go out and cut up fallen tree branches instead.
Happy holidays.

Jeezus...sorry to hear this, George. Now you know why I was happy I left Minnesota. Same kind of crap.
Have a merry Xmas anyway, ok? Especially with that lovely lady I met at the LA Amp Show.

Thanks Jim, we are making the most of it. I'm sure years from now we will look back at this as the Christmas without power. It's really not bad, the heat is on, the water works and is hot, I can run an appliance or two at a time. We are far from roughing it.
And, I have Cris to keep me warm. That doesn't suck.

Just got power back. Good thing too, the generator blew a seal and was dumping oil like crazy.
Merry Christmas friends.

Well power has been back on since Christmas day, but I still have no internet. I'm working from the Ipad using my phone as a hotspot. But it's not very productive and I'm blasting through data upgrades like mad.
Please bear with me, when I am back up and running I will catch up on emails, orders and such.

Re: Power out at shop, possibly for several days
Well, it's a 5 hour service call, but I think I can make it the next time ...
Summer 2012 had a 2½ day outage... I really needed to repair an input jack. I went to the auto store and picked up a $25
12v converter. Went back home, plugged it in the Lighter receptacle; plugged in the soldering iron, dropped the pickup truck's tailgate for a table & cranked the Radio, a minute later, heated right up and made the repair !
Good thing it was in the Summer & not raining... Coulda' used some AC that day...

It's for times like these I have a nice little 12V Antex iron with crocodile clips. Just drag a little 12V battery indoors (like my spare motorbike battery), and it's job done.JimiJames wrote:Well, it's a 5 hour service call, but I think I can make it the next time ...

Re: Power out at shop, possibly for several days
This has definitely been a holiday season we won't forget. We got through the power outtage and everything just to be hit with frigid temps and more snow. 14 degrees here now with -1 wind chill. I have to snowblow the driveway or UPS and FEDEX won't deliver/pickup. So, layer up the Carhartts and get out there in the cold...

Re: Power out at shop, possibly for several days
At this point I just throw up my hands. While out snowblowing I get an urgent call, a tanker truck overturned on the expressway, less than a mile from here. HazMat spill, possible evcatuation.
Turns put to be hydrogen sulfide. Could be bad stuff and the wind is blowing our direction. Just shaking my head.
Shop closed until Monday, possible to change upon further weather, natural disaster, utility failure or end of the known World. Lol
