Trying out an output transformer

Post by planetjimi » Wed Apr 23, 2008 8:12 pm

When trying out a different output transformer do I have to fully install it into the chasis. Or can I just have it laying outside the chasis and hook up the wires.

At the very least, you'd want to make sure to ground the chassis of the transformer to the chassis ground. I can't think of a reason not to try it out of the amp, but it may (and probably will) sound different installed in the amp, due to the effects of EMF.
So I like purple, okay!!!!!!

You can clip it in with test leads outside the chassis, just be careful with those leads... especially the primaries!
