OT C 2723 wiring?

Post by Gunner » Fri Nov 27, 2009 5:08 pm

Hi guys!
I'm restoring a nice Traynor Mark 3 amp, rebuilding it to a SL 1959 (well cloose at least, but it also has a four gain stage channel as well...).
The amp has a replacement OT from a Marshall, probably from a Silver Jubliee or something like that. But I can't find any information about this OT. Can you help me?
The OT is marked C 2723. It has only three secondary wires - black, orange and brown. What do they stand for? I got some information I would like to have confirmed - Brown = Com, Black = 4 ohm, Yellow 8 ohm. Is that correct?
Thanks in advance!
/Gunnar

Yes, the Yellow lead is 8 ohms, the black lead is 4 ohms and the Brown lead is common. I just did a tear down on one of these by the way.

That is weird because I have a spare C2723 which has primaries red/brown/white as you would expect and secondaries are green=16/yellow=8/black=4 and brown=common, just like any other Dagnall 100watt OT.

Wonder why they did two versions with same part number?

On your OT probably the end bells of a C2723 are mounted to a C2668 - by factory accident or later?

The fault almost always is sitting in front of the amp

Maybe?

It came from a 75/76 Superlead.

I do have a C2668 as well (that has the number ink stamped on the top of the lams) so I will pull both apart to see, but I seem to remember a printed label on the side cheek of the bobbin on the C2373 (not stamped on top).................will have a look and maybe post a pic 8)

I took end cover off and it has a label on the brown paper wrapping around the coils covered in varnish C2373 under the varnish! I took a pic last night but am stuck at work waiting for scans and stuff
