290GX black wires

Post by mdc1 » Fri Jul 02, 2010 3:01 pm

Have a Hammond 209GX 50W PT that will be installed in my 78 JMP 2204 and wonder how to distinquish between the two black wires in the secondary windings. Would be nice to not have to just measure the voltage to find out.

red (345V)
black (COM)
red (345V)

black (3.15V)
brown (COM)
orange (3.15)

Measure resistance between each black lead and one of the two reds. The one that measures roughly around 45 ohms relative to either red wire is the HT center tap that goes to ground.

Also, the black wire that is part of the heater winding should be a thicker gauge than the one that is the CT for the HT winding.

On one side of that transformer you will have only 4 wires coming out of it while 6 wires are coming out of the other. The black wire on the 4 wire side of the transformer is the one that corresponds to the 120V tap on the primary.
