Opinions on Hammond 175OU, 290HX and choke

Hello friends. I'm gathering parts for a super lead build and want to use these Hammond PT,OT and 159Q choke. They seem resonably priced. Does anybody use exclusively or have experience for marshall plexi builds? Could you also share tonal insight about these? From what I see output transformer makes difference and I'm going for a vintagey but a punchy, chewy, harmonic, clear sound if it makes sense. Maybe Its just metro-spec Heyboer set who knows

Iv'e used those two on a amp I have a clip on youtube. Look up My 1969 amp. So you can hear it for your self.

Thanks man. Also it was mentioned in another topic that PT gives B+ is about 460Volt, heater is like 5.8-5.9 .Are these values ok (especially for Heaters?) for a proper build?

Hi again friends. I was looking in the Hammond PT specs and in paper, it says 356 Volts Center Tap @ 420 mAmpere.

I used to see some much higher numbers than this one like 350-0-350 (like 700 Volts than it drops to around 450 500)

Can someone give information about the calculation for these? I found some topic in search but this 356 Volts seems so low?

Or they were supposed to measure it at 150mA so it will get higher? (In the formula W = Volt x Ampere) Is it like that? Just curious...

100-watt OTs are usually something like 175-0-175, or 350VCT. The earliest 100-watters used a different rectification system and PTs with double the voltage (more than double, actually).

I have used those trannies with a 158Q choke, which is a better choice, IMO. Yes, the PT is a little underspec'd. You don't get full heater voltage and it gets pretty hot. It works fine though, and the voltages are nicer on the tubes than a usual 100-watt PT at 490V. The OT sounds pretty good, actually.

Hammond's "guitar amp" stuff isn't overspec'd like the rest of their stuff.
