Clip: Choke Comparison [No Pepsi]

I A/B'd my 2 chokes to see what the difference was.
I poseted the clips on soundclick.
The one named 10H is a 10H Merc.
The one labeled 3H is a 3H that came stock in my '74 SL. Does that make it a dagnall? Not sure.
I thought the difference was interesting in that this has always been one of those mysterious things... "what does a different size choke get me?"
the question that still remains after this is - "was the difference in sound because of the size? or because of the make?"

The 3H sounds looser, too loose?, while the 10H sounds tighter with better note definition, but with a harder tone. On these clips at least, I prefer the 10H.

Dc resistance is also a factor, 100ohms is the target, sounds more vintage. 5H 100ohms 150ma

Both chokes are sounding great, each on its way!
The 10H seems to make a more compressed, but creamier sound, while the 3H makes the sound looser, more rude and more 'into your face'.
For bluesy stuff and vintage rock I'd prefer the 10H, for harder rock stuff from AC/DC to Zakk Wylde I'd prefer the 3H.
Why not to have an amp with both in it - switchable

I liked the 3h, it sounded more open, and seemed to let the sound "bloom" a bit more than the harder, darker 10k,which,for lack of a better word, sounded "constricted".

I agree Tone Slinger. It's easy to have a reaction that fuller is better - but in this case the fuller sound of the 10H sounds a little sluggish.

The 3H definitely had alot of that 70s hard rock vibe to it while the 10H in comparison was warmer and smooooth (maybe too smooth IMHO, but then I like it rude).....

I liked the 3H choke. It sounded more "Marshall" to me.

Cool comparison! To me the 3H has a little kind of hollow sound. The 10H is little more compressed. Both chokes are sounding very nice. I could hard decide which one I would prefer.
I'd like to know whether the feeling to play them makes more different then soundwise?! I guess that 10H makes interactivity a little stiffer? Or is it the opposite?
