Just wondering what the opinions are on the generic Marshall trannies at CEdist Antique Electronic supply?
P-TM-P50 & P-TMO50
Says they're built to vintage specs with exact interleave ratios and materials.

I've had an account with CE for many years and I've never found an answer on those transformers . I talked to a rep quite a few years ago on who made them, but he wouldn't give me an answer. All the searches on them led me nowhere. I hope someone to has an answer

I was talking CE today & the guy thinks they're Hammond made but wasn't 100% sure. There was a thread with OT comparisons but the link to the comparisons is dead now. Pretty sure CE was on there & rated well.

ive used their standard replacements for 50 watters both OT and PT.. great stuff. I do have to admit, I hear better tones when I buy the Mojo Heybower replacements. Its hard to pass up the wholesale prices they give me and next day delivery on ground prices. Tempe to Orange County is a major route so quick delivs.

I have the CE Output and Power trannies in my plexy and the thing's been bullet proof. I got Hammond for my new build this time and will compare the 2.

I used a CE P-TM050 OT in a 2204-type build---- George's Heyboer PT.
People like this amp a lot--- it frakkin rocks----- I've got another Metro chassis, board, same Heyboer PT, same choke, but a Merc Mag OT for another similar build ...........if i can ever get to it---- too many other builds always push it to the back of the build line.
When i get to it i'll post the results--- A/B'ing the CE vs Merc Mag OT's--- it might be a while..................gldtp99

Sean: I use Marstran transformers, 784–139 for the output and 102–164 for the power and yes, that’s me on youtube. Back when I bought these they were on sale for like 80 bucks a piece, not anymore. Back in early 2000 I was very tempted to buy CE transformers but I just couldn’t pull myself up to it since I couldn’t find anybody that bought them or any other information on them. Just didn’t want to take the chance and they were only $45.00. I finally made a clip of my 50w Marshall through Cakewalk which hasn’t been up and running since last summer due to to much golfing. I have their OT in my Weber based Plexi clone. I can only compare it to the Weber HHR-45 OT that came with the kit. The AES tranny had more "girth". The frequency response was extended compared to the weber.

Hi I am new here, but here is the scoop on the CE Brand Transformers!


They are made by a company in Illinois called magnetic Components. They have been around for a long time and make many replacement transformers for Marshall, Fender, Vox, etc. They also do Custom Work.

I had a set of custom Iron made for me from them. Great company to work with.

Oh yes I forgot. The Iron sounds great!!!!!!!!

Here is a OT shootout that got me interested in the first place.

The samples were done on the same amp, same tubes, same settings.

We had a topic regarding this OT shootout on my local guitar forum.

All the sheep (there is alot of them here in NZ) were "wow the MM rocks, it's the best!", "yeah I agree!", but myself and few others really liked the Cedist (magnetic componants). To me it was really warm sounding.
I didn't like the Weber all that much and was disapointed with the MM. I thought the Mojotone sounded a little harsh or bright.

I don't think overall though there was that much between the top 3 and bear in mind that in person they would sound different, mp3 sucks and they would behave differently with different amps and speakers.

So considering that Metro have continued to use the Dagnall clone (i think?) in there flagship replica line and that they are built by heyboer for Metro to George's spec, they cost less than MM, they sound good and I can order them easily here, the Metro Dagnall clone wins for me.

I have a MM pt and ot on my 98 plexi reissue, modded by splawn back in 2003. My stock 69 build sounds way better with the CE trannies. The pt does get very hat though.
