I just blew the power transformer in my 1972 (it just happened when it was left alone on standby - not really sure how - smoke everywhere). So anyways, I'm wondering some things that hopefully i can get some answers for.

Is it possible to get it re-wound or repaired?

Is it possible to find an NOS or scrapped one (100 watt)? Does anyone have one for sale?

Does the power transformer effect the tone?

The reason I want an original is because this amp was otherwise 100% stock, and the value will definitely suffer. If I cannot get an original, and I cannot get a repair, than I may be stuck with using a marshall plexi reissue one. Or are there other sources? I'm sure I can get one from metro, is it as good asa plexi reissue one? I pretty much no very little about these things and I am just hoping for some answers for myself and my amp tech.

EDIT: just checked the store, and it appears that there are many 100 watt power transformers... can anyone tell me the difference between them? Which one do I want for my 72?

First question is why it blew without taking a fuse out?

Is it a stand up or lay down? I am guessing stand up Dagnall (with copper screen arpund it)?

The metro 1202-80 http://metroamp.com/store/product_info. ... cts_id=458will fit in the standard end bells, but if you can get his T2562 this is even better as it will retain the original two through bolts (most new trannies have 4 bolts at the corners which is a real giveaway). Brian Wallace does a T2562 to but as you see it is a 4bolt one. http://www.marstran.com/T2562.htmThis produces about 490v rectified which may be a little lower than you are used to (again guessing 500-520v)

You could get it rewound but it takes a long time and it is not really an economically viable exercise so you may have to persuade someone to do it for you for research.

I'll get that info ^^ soon, for more details on which replacement I will need.

In the mean time, I might as well ask, if anybody is willing to rewind/fix up my power transformer, for cash?

Check with Brian Wallace at Marstran, he might have the correct tranny for you to fit straight off
