Help...Replacing my 50watt OT (Couple of Questions)

Post by Milestone » Sat Oct 02, 2010 1:38 pm

I'm still learning tube amp technology and amplifier electronics so here goes...
I purchased a 50watt 1987x of Ceriatone decent and the secondary shoorted in the PT killing it. I replaced it with one I bought from Brian Wallace. This amp is a good amp but I'm looking for more vintage 50watt tone out of it so I also purchased a high quality vintage spec OT. My question is, is this procedure as simple as removing the OT & wiring in the new one or are their any other issues I need to be prepared for, such as cap or resistor changes, different voltages, etc.....

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

When replacing the OT, I would strongly suggest checking the bias on the power tubes. Also, does the amp have Sozo's in it? If not, I would recommend changing to those for a more authentic tone.
Patience is a virtue.

Thanks so much Brian. The amp still has the stock Mallory's. Sounds like there's a Metro order coming up
