Post by jnewlyn » Wed Dec 27, 2006 1:04 am

I'm building a 67/68 100 watt plexi and would like to try one of the ****** OPT Trannies. Can someone tell me where to go to buy one?
Cheers to the ears.

Right. But where would that be? I need a website or email or phone #. As much info as I've found about the Trannies, I can't seem to find any contact info.
Cheers to the ears.

Almost the same for me....two weeks and several e-mails, but then he quit responding to my e-mails after I requested the "vintage" mounting space end covers so I didn't have to carve up my aluminum Super PA chassis.

Brian Wallace happily supplied both the OT and the repro RS choke for that amp instead.

Well, I've PM'd him over at Plexi Palace and will be patient. In the meantime, does he make several OPT types and if so, what's the general consensus on them?
Cheers to the ears.

I've built a 12000s and a 10000 with them.
They are great trannys.
He's allways dealt with me fairly.

His 2" EL 34 Tranny is thicker sounding (especially with single coils) than his 1.5, but his 1.5 is more accurate for VH. Though his 2" can do a great VH too. Both are asolutely killer.
It's voiced very close to the 1.5, but it has the thickness thing going o the single coils which is a trip.
But everythings stil tight. The 2" feedsback better too.

That can be said for several brands of the 2" compared to the 1.5 that I've tried.

Overall I like the 2" better, but for VH 1.5 is the accurate way to go.

Mightymike, that's a good report and helps a lot. So safe to say that the 1.5" is an awesome recreation of the 1.5" Dagnall that Ed's amp allegedly used. Makes sense. That's probably the one I'll be after if I can somehow get hold of Chris Merrem. I've PM'd him over at vintageamps.com but haven't had any response from him. Someone suggested calling his cell phone but I would imagine that that # wouldn't be easy to come by. I try another PM.
Cheers to the ears.
