Dagnal vs replica sound clips

Post by VelvetGeorge » Wed Dec 22, 2004 4:35 pm

Here's the first of the sound clips comparing my new Dagnal replica OT to the original in my '70 100 watt Superlead.

I've edited the clips together, so you'll hear two riffs with the stock OT first. Then the same two riffs with the replica.

For these the channels were jumped and all controls were set to "5".

I like the clone. It's just seems to have more raunch. You could really tell with the first clips of Tush. When are the metro clones up for sale?

I really like the tone on clip two.
I listened to it several times, and I gotta say the clone seems maybe a tad less harsh. Both sound great, but I think the clone wins, and it's probably not even broken in yet.

When I build a 100 watter I know what OT is going in.

George I like the clone. When listening through my puter speakers with the original Im getting a zzzztt type high end thing going on while you are playing and with the clone it goes away. Seems that the close is a bit tighter and smoother, more alive type sound. So when are they going on sale?

I agree with all of you. The Dagnal replica sounds a bit smoother.

Okay, now all we need is a great thread that compares Heyboer, MM, and Dagnall OT's!!

Done. This clip is the Dagnal and Heyboer with the MM added.

I did have to lower the presence control a little with the MM clip to avoid oscillation. Which is to be expected with the OT not mounted to the chassis and the leads running everywhere.

Hmm ... the Merc sounds pretty good too. A little squishier and more compressed?
