Help me help my Floyd Rose.

Post by Tone Slinger » Mon Oct 08, 2007 3:12 pm

I have a love/hate going on here. I love the tone of a standard Fender trem., but cant put up with the tuning issues. I came up on Floyds and use the bar alot. My question is how do I improve the tone on my floyd. I've had old ones and new ones and they sound the same to me. Whats this brass block I've been hearing about ? How does it improve a Floyds tone, and where do I get one at ? Thanks.

The cheapies have a cast block on the bottom that hold your springs .. Real Floyds are Steel.. you can get a different block from Stewart Mcdonald
and Im sure there are other places.. But the Steel block isnt cheap..

Probably better off getting a New Real Floyd instead..

It's a real one, my floyd. I heard somewhere on the EVH section of guy's getting a block of brass I think. I think they maybe glued this to the existing steel block to increase tone and sustain ? I still think that an origional Floyd Rose (new or old, had both) is the best sounding locking system. It sounds closer to a stock Fender bridge than all others. It's just a Fender bridge is more resonate and toneful. I want to get the best possible sound out of a Floyd, cause I'm resigned to the fact that with my style, I have no other choice but to use one.

The big brass blocks are what you want. I think they do make a difference. They just screw in as a replacement for the smaller cast block.

Try divebomb inc. (who posts here pretty often) or www.frankenstraat.com.

Or call Performance in Hollywood. They sell a big block that is made of bell metal. Will require some minor dremeling of your tremolo cavity to make it fit. http://www.performanceguitar.com/

What pickups are in the Performance Guitars Warren replicas? Are they JB's,and do they have the Ping Original Floyd Rose pickups, under liscence?
THe bell metal bridge block on the Koa guitar is fascinating, where can we buy them in the states?
http://warrendemartini.net/hawaiiankoa_e.html
Warren's guitars have aiways been unique and there has been much discussion on his early recording setup, reamping, ect.Beau Hill who did a lot of the original recordings wouldknow the deal. There is all this talk of Warren using Laney's,but I have only seen him usung Marshalls.
So the Seymour Duncan Warren DeMartini Custom Shop pickups are to come in the new Fender/Charvel guitars?
How much will they cost, probably as much as the first EVH Charvels I'm sure, but the Warren's are a far more desirable guitar!
This is from the Warren DeMartini forum, the brass blocks are best.

FWIW... I noticed a little improvement in tone and a big increase in sustain and "ring" when I put a Tremsetter on my superstrat's OFR.

miguel, where can one get the tremsetters these days, know Ibanez had their own version, who makes the OFR version and what if you are running a flush mount Floyd, I have a small amount of float towards sharp, but will a tremsetter work with this app....??

I believe Fender bought them... mine's a Fender/Hipshot, purchased about 8-9 years ago.

It should work either way. I have the OFR set up to float and it's rock solid. No sag when bending or playing hard.

Of course, I don't play the superstrat anymore... I've gone hardtail and can't go back.

The bell metal FR block is the Performance shop in Hollywood I mentioned above. This is what I use. The Performance guys don't really have a website, but they answer the phone. Good guys.
