Absotively!!! Of all the PAF clones, the Dr. Vs (and the Rolphs) give me the biggest wood. Both of these make one of my historic Les Pauls sound very close to my '54 conversion with PAFs.
Interesting :)

I'm GASing for a set for my R8...

Love the Dr V's in my 2005 standard. Check the clips in my sig if you want.

Once you have lived with them for a while you realise how they truely shine. They let the natural woodyness of the guitar through and really let it sing. They also respond well to pick attack. Pick soft and it will clean up, dig in and it will crunch like hell.

Absolutely amazing.

Having said that I am on the list for Tims and when my number comes up I'll give them a shot. I'd also like to try the True60's and some others. Just to see if there is anything that absolutely matchess this guitar and my ear in a god like fasion. So far however the Dr. V's have my vote.

I am not rich though so this takes time.

just MY opinion & my rig. the darkburst was the winner. strong enough, not too hot, clear high end, but full & smooth.

Hey Tommy,
I put a set of Burstbucker Pros in my 59 reissue flametop Les Paul. It's basically their Burstbuckers, wound just a tad hotter, and potted to reduce noise. The guitar sounds gooooood. :-)
Good Luck,

Changing out the electronics in your axe will do alot for tone.. Dont get hung up on RS stuff it is way to high and CTS pots are average at best.. Using Papper in oil caps works wounder for a sweet tone and I would try the jensen caps for it. I have not used them because I have vitamin Q astrons sangamos amoungst others.
Here is some wiring diagrams for you to look over if you want to change it to ventage specs..
It does make a difference in the sound..
I went to the mussic shop close to my house and bought some new pots for my hamer , They came in a mint green package and had WD in black letters. They seem to be working fine and they only cost $2.50 each.
My hamer had CTS in it and they were junk. The lugs were lose and shorting out on the carbon strip..

Peace man and I hope you find the tone you seek.

They are pure crap. Out of the last three guitars I've built I've had at least one of the CTS pots be bad on initial install. Two were just plain bad...one "might" have been destroyed by the heat from the soldering iron when I star grounded to the back of the pot.

That being said, other pots don't disintegrate when I solder ground leads to them and some of them (Alpha) are much less expensive with a better feel.
I've been using CTS out of my stubbornness and desire to have a vintage type US pot that has that crummy vintage feel but after my recent experiences I'm done w/ CTS altogether. If I need an expensive vintage feel pot I'll go with CGE. For everything else I'll stick with Alpha for their dependability, dirt cheap price, and smooth rotation.
