Joe Bonamassa Signature Les Paul

Post by Mantegna » Thu Jan 03, 2008 11:20 pm

Gibson is starting pre production of a Joe Bonamassa signature Les Paul. Joe apparently met with Gibson this week. It'll be a tech/spec copy of his 59 LP.

All I know is that his main 59 has pickups from a 1963 ES -335. I'll ask Joe what his specs are and I'll get back to ya. Joe answers most questions on his online forum ;) what a cool guy.

AFAIK it's not a '59, but a '58 [R8] w/ flame top. Pretty similar to my R8:

The wide flamey lemonburst is an R8, but he has R9's too (at least one has PAF's in it).

Thanks Derrick :D

Yes, she's really a beatiful guitar - for the eyes as well as for the ears!

I've only swapped in CTS pots & orig. Bumble Bees from the late 50', since she's a 2001 build there still are the 57' Gibson PU's in and I'm playing Gibson Vintage Reissue Pure Nickel strings - it's simply heaven on earth, to play on this guitar

Larry

PS: Sorry Mr. Beasty - but simply go together with your two friends 'Smith & Wesson' to your bank and speak with them 8)

Can you post a link to this forum or send it to me as a PM?

AFAIK Joe's R8 is only a few digits away from mine, want to check it with him

And moreover I think, that Joe is an appreciative candidate for a British Purist!
For him I'd even shrink my waiting time down to a few months 8)

I was looking for about 6 monts for a R8 or R9 for myself but the ones I looked at didn't have near as nice flame top as the one on yours..It is a beauty!!! I'm sure it plays and sounds as good as it looks :D ....I got tired of looking and had the burning for another LesPaul so I picked myself up a Custom, black w/gold hardware ......No R8 or R9 but I love it just the same...... :D

www.jbonamassa.com

check out his forums there. The more I hear JB, the more I like his music. He first started out doing so much of the Fender SRV stuff but over the last 3-4 years has really gotten away from that, is playing almost exclusively on his Gibsons...and his sound is just incredible. I was a skeptic until I was lucky enough to go to a live show. Skeptic no more. nuff said.

a quote from Joe Bonamassa:

"Hey Everybody,
Im up late packing for my Nashville trip tomorrow. I am going down to design along with the Gibson Custom Shop a Joe Bonamassa Gibson Les Paul.. First Let me say that it will always be Les's guitar the most successful signature model of all time. Im just doing a interpretation of a ingenious design to begin with. I have seen Les 4 times in Concert and he is brilliant. I even got a picture with him last year. He is a pro's pro. Sound checking after doing 2 shows at 93 years old. Always striving for something new and never satisfied with with the status quo even tho he is a icon of the highest order. With that said I am tremendously honored that Gibson wants to do this. Its every kid guitar players dream to have his/her name on a Gibson Les Paul. I have my #one packed in its well worn case ready to be taken apart and copied. My # One is the Tom Murphy 1959 wild looking Les Paul that I have played for the past 5 years. We havent settled on the final look of the guitar but it will play and be set up exactly the same.. I just wanted to share this as I cant really sleep with excitement. Its like Charlie and the Chocolate factory and Willie Wonka rolled into one event. All I can say about the guitar is its going to be cool..
Thanks for reading..."
