A $90,000 strat isnt going to make me a better player and who know what the tone is on these guitars, because they are rare or old doesn't mean that the new guitars today are not as good or even better. I think its just Nostalgia! I think they have just one thing going for them, they have been worked in 40 years of it.
... of course it's Nostalgia. :D Back in '65, those bolt-on Fenders were literally slapped together by Mexican-Americans in Fullerton CA, and most of them were making the U.S. hourly wage, which at the most was probably $2.50-3 bucks an hour back then. Now those guitars are worth a hundred grand... and the modern "Master built" relic'd repros upwards of $5k? My a$$ they're worth that amount of money! ... *IMO*... it's all a farce perpetuated for yuppie nostalgist "collectors" with dispo$able income.

If it wasn't for the worldwide over-regulating of nitro laquer and the fact modern, corporate guitar companies cut costs on guitar hardware and pickups, there'd be no real collectors market to speak of. Today's CNC technology for wood and metal manufacturing can create more consistent-quality instruments than they ever could back in those days. But I'm sure the vintage guitar market would seriously hate it if you could buy a mass-produced, Chinese or Mexican-made repro '65 Strat with the same nitro laquer and quality hardware/pups as was standard in the mid-50s through the 60s... and for around $1500 to $2000. Then there'd be no point having a $100K, 40+ year old Strat... unless it was played on the Moon... that is...

If we are talking about Violins then thats a different story! With Electric its just aged parts like pick up that loose their magnetic field that create a sweet spot, and out of 100 guitars made back then all where different and maybe only 10 where sweet. I guess this whole custom relic came about because people wanted a relic looking guitar from the 50's and 60's but didnt want to pay the $90,000 for one.
