I am a strat man, BUT, I have been getting the itch for a Les Paul so bad lately, that I gotta give in. I actually had a late 70's silver burst custom, but got rid of it real quick (I was only 13),anyway's, I'm gonna have to sell stuff that I dont want to, as well as save up a few months (maybe 3 or 4). I'm gonna go the ebay way. My price range is gonna be around $1500 or so. I want a black Les Paul Standard. This is gonna put me into the 2000 to 2007 years.
Here's what I want to know, what are the neck sizes on these by year ? Did they change much on the Standards ? I dislike the big '59 size neck, but LIKE the slim 60's style. What year of standard has the thinner neck ?

To the best of my knowledge the slim 60's profile is what is on the LPstandard. I think the fatter 50's style is only used on the reissue guitars. Hope that helps.

Re: Les Paul Standard specifications ?
Many years in the last decade had both neck profiles offered (my '06 standard has the 50's neck -- they had a sticker on the truss rod cover when new to tell you which profile the neck had.) So make sure the auction lists which neck profile the guitar has -- or be sure to post the question yourself on the auction for the seller to answer.
The Classic is the one that only came in the 60's slim profile -- but did they make the Classic in black?

I settled on a Edwards I couldn't get close to this from Gibson for the money. Supposedly no lightening holes yet weights only 8.2 lbs which is important to me as I can only handle that for a short time as is. Long neck tenon and historic style neck pocket. Solid maple top with veneer for the flame. I have done some additional aging to it since this pictures were taken.

Very nice ! Great looking Paul there. Are all the tops on the standards curved or are some 'straight' ?
