Custom made Fender style Necks and bodies

Post by electricskychurch » Sun Dec 21, 2008 9:53 am

recently, i've been searching for some shops / companies that are proposing custom made necks and bodies for Fender style guitars.

i saw warmoth and another named custom shop USA or so .
i didn't eel like they were making really nice repros but today i found this one and i'm wondering what to think about it !

do you know them :

they seem to propose nice necks with good nitrocellulose and fret job but i wonder if their Fender strat and tele style custom made necks and bodies are as nice and as good as Fender custom shop ones !?

Do not buy from him. He, on some guitars removes the logo from WARMOTH guitars and necks, and sell's them as made by him. I ran into him 3 years ago, he's a prick. Sorry about that it's really up to you if you whant to give him a shot. I don't like giving people or Companies a bad rap, but trust me on this one. :x     "Junk"

no ! i can't believe it ! LOL
i like this forum (metro) as until now, most of the people i read the post of, seem to be nice people not loosing their time bothering other people for free unlike so many other forums where it's the "prick dance" !
so , if you say you had problems with this guy, i would tend to believe you ! LOL

too bad it seemed to be nice at first.
a friend of mine that really knows stratocasters and has a few great early and mid 60's ones told me that all these custom made parts not made by Fender , are not as good as fender ones.
i'm not as much as a vintage Mojo guy as him (i need to see and hear to believe ! LOL) but he might be right although i'm sure there are some luthier out there doing some guitars that might be exact repros looking and playing as good as Fender custom shop ones ....
where are they ! LOL

Do you have any proof of this?

His shop is about three miles from my house. I was going to have him build a custom guitar and neck for me, I drove over to his shop and I saw a Warmoth box with bodies in the box and their was a neck laying on top of the boxes, so I picked up the neck and looked at were it bolts on to the body and Warmoth Turtle logo was shaved off, you could still see the logo (Just a little enough to ID the neck). So I asked him "wow nice neck did you build this" the bald guy replied "yes we build everything here". After that there was no way I was going to let this guy build anything for me. True story. May be things have changed, hay don't take my word for it, give it a shot. His shop is on the north side of Washington Blvd just East of the 605 Fwy. Good Luck

by the way ( about luthiers) , i wonder who built Jack white's 3 pu's green double cut duo jet Gretsch repro ?

here's another link ,there's a nice explanation about quarter sawn and flat sawn necks:

i saw a relic one that looks nice, with " relic " carved at the back of the neck base and custom shop decal at the back of headstock but no neck date stamp !

the guy says it's a 2005.

is it possible there's no date stamp on a CS 60' strat neck ?

it seems the back of that neck base, where is engraved the word "RELIC" has been sanded, as i looked at several other custom shop relic necks sold as parts and it seems they all have date stamps and names or signatures in that area of the neck ...
also, all still have some nitro finish in that area whereas that CS relic strat neck i saw looks sanded with no more nitro finish at all where you put the 4 screws for the part of the neck that sits in the body's neck pocket , like if the date stamp and builder or control quality signature had been erased.
so, on top of beeig strange, i wonder if the guy might have changed the profile of the neck base /heel , what could make a weird contact with the body !

still searching for some good Fender licensed necks (and bodies as well) , i came across that other website that has the same logo (B.Hefner company ) but another website address :

http://edenhaus.com/woods.htm" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

it seems it's the same company.

maybe i'm wrong but it seems to be more difficult to make the same neck and truss rod as Fender ones than the bodies.

i came across a few actual trendy strat and tele repros, like Mc Guire, Nash, Rebel Relics ...etc but all are making relic guitars ...

do you have some other websites addresses for those Fender repro Necks and bodies ?
