Line 6 amp practice vs. tube amp practice

Post by blfrd » Thu Oct 08, 2009 2:57 pm

I've been practicing on a Line 6 amp (don't ask) for a while now. The other day I played through a real amp w/tubes and couldn't believe how much the Line 6 had messed with my right hand.

I'm assuming it's because the Line 6 is compressed as hell, which makes every picked note the same volume, hence reducing your effort.

Anyone else experience the same problem with practicing on a non-tube amp?

Just when I thought I had some wicked chops.........:(

Yep, some amps don't let you get away with nothing!

Several years back when I got back into tube amps after using a Peavey solid state and before that a Ampeg SS amp, I was pleasantly surprised at what I had been missing.
Now with three tube amps in the arsenal I can cover a lot of ground with that beautiful tube tone!

I totally know what you mean. I have a little micro cube I use. I just turn down my volume knob on my guitar to make it harder.
Well it sounds raga, don't want to go raga on this stuff...

I like using Line6's GuitarPort
I really can get a good practice in . Some of these tones can sound good ..The tone I get in a vid I recently posted, (see sig) has a good feel. Although, not a Line6 amp, the Logitech Z-680's fuckin' rule with the computer! If anyone goes the way of computer these 5.1 speakers are the shit !
