Lawsuit Ibanez firebirds anyone?

Post by HARLEYIII » Fri Mar 26, 2010 9:26 am

Ive played a few "lawsuit" guitars, but theyve all beel either LP copys or SG copys. Ive only played one that was a dog. The others seemed really nice (Im poor. dont laugh  ). Ive been itching for a firebird copy to put EMG's in to play heavy stuff. Are the Firebird copys worth a shit?

I have a buddy that has 2 firebirds. One is a gibson and the other is a Ibanez copy. The copy is beautiful and sounds great. He uses the Ibanez for gigging. Hope this helps.

I used to own a lawsuit Ibanez Firebird. It was a good substitute till I got a Gibson. I think a good compromise would be if you can find a cheap USA Gibson FB and route it for the EMG's, or even better, just swap out the pickups in an Epiphone FB Studio, which is already routed for fullsize HB's, and if you throw a Gibson trussrod cover on it, who's gonna know at stage distance??
For some reason, those lawsuit guitars seem to command a lot of money these days, so the Epi might be a good alternative. They seem to be pretty plentiful on Ebay these days, and "used.guitarcenter.com" has a couple of them for under $400.00!!

Here's an Epi FB VII (3 pickup, if thats of interest):

Whichever one you go with, try to make sure its got a decent neck... any Firebird can be prone to neck issues (twists, usually).
