Re: Lefty 500k pots
I'm having a hard time getting my head round how the taper would need to be changed with pots in a lefty guitar - is there such a thing as lefty pots?

Reverse logarithmic taper is what you need (or reverse audio taper)
Tone pots can be regular linear taper though (unless of course you specifically prefer log taper in tone pots!
)
And yes, of course the taper needs to be the complete opposite on lefty guitars for them to behave as you would expect. Unless of course you're using standard numbered knobs in which case it's a little bit stupid to wire them reversed (not to mention confusing)
I failed to find any I liked and just got used to using decent standard pots wired up normally. It's not like I mess about with volume swells using my pinky anyhow. Given that my no.1 guitar is a thin bodied LP clone, it'd be near impossible!
I wouldn't want to wire up in reverse on my Strat either. It'd just look wrong to me.
The only guitar of mine I'd consider putting proper reverse log pots in would be my Steinberger (cricket bat shape), but considering it took me several attempts to get the wiring to work properly, I'm just gonna live with it as is.
Oh yeah, guess I should've started by saying I'm a lefty too. (well, actually right handed, but I can't play for shit that way round)

I would think just wiring a normal pot backwards would work?

That's not gonna work at all with a log pot. You'll get a really huge jump in volume at the WRONG end of the pot. Totally the opposite effect of using a linear pot, which is equally horrible.
