Need ES355 "Short" Pickguard

Post by NY Chief » Thu Aug 21, 2014 2:42 pm

Anybody know of any good sources? They are hard to come by, even from Gibson.

I'm looking for the bound edge version, not the triple ply beveled that comes on the 335 and 345. It's also the same as the one on the Lucille guitar. They stopped making the short one in '61 I believe. The short one ends at the bridge humbucker, the current one goes all the way to the bridge. Pickguardian will build one for $200+!

I can find the long version for approx $80 or so. I've thought about making my own but it's actually formed binding like around the body of a Paul. Dunno how difficult it may be.

Here's a pic..

That would be fairly straight forward. There are a few vids on the Stewmac site on how to do multiple binding layers like that. They are not all done together and put on in one piece. I say make it yourself.

Thanks, '50! I'll check it out. I've got sooo many projects in my head and in process I really don't need another one! If I spent half as much time playing I'd be amost as good as you guys!

I did find a Chinese Epi guard on ebay for $40. We'll see what kind of quality it is. And they sent a message, "if you don't mind it will ship without the (epiphone) "e"...It was coming off anyway!
