I've been thinking of building one with a friend, http://www.myspace.com/erfguitars.Nothing will teach you about how guitars work and are set up like building your own from scratch.
or with my dad.
Either way it would wrokk.

What are these superpots?Bad Kitty wrote:The Superpots have a diffrent taper on them.Billy Batz wrote:RS Guitars is this online store that matches CTS pots and sells them along with these expensive Hovland Audiophile caps as upgrade kits for guitars. I dont know what the point of matching pots is. I just get 4 CTS pots and some Hovlands from wherevers cheapest and call it a day.
A lot of people here like the Pearly Gates. Never tried em

Don't get me wrong, I think there is merit in replacing the other electronics, but I think you'll get so much more out of the modding if you replace the pickups - the difference is light night and day, whereas the difference between two types of pots is like 11.00am and 12.01pm. Stick some Alnico II pro Duncans in that Epiphone and it'll scream!

RS Superpots are at www.rsguitarworks.com. They're specially made for guitar. I put them in. I like them.
I also put in some old VitaminQ paper and oil caps and wired it up 50's style. That really made a diffrence. It was like night and day. I've got tone controls that actually work. It's a whole new world now.
I'm still debating on whether to change the pickups. The stock ones are sounding fine now.
YMMV

With a LP I can see having the pot be over 500k instead of under is better. I guess that makes them useful to some degree as well as having the 500k on the tone be a bit larger instead of smaller then 500k. But just putting in normal CTS and Hovlands made a night and day difference too. Itll cost a lot to have any component manufacturer make a run for you at a very tight tolerance like the super pots. Im fine with the normal taper. Im all for it if I believed it made a significant difference form normal CTS and Hovlands. I suppose theoreticaly you could get a CTS close to 400k vs a RS closer to 600k and givin that choice the RS would clearly be more preferable. But man are they expensive.
John, Larry said using the normal Sozos sounds great in guitars before you expose them to high voltages in an amp that is. I used them in a recent strat build with CTS pots and, I didnt really have a basis for comparison but it sounds great.
