Anyone else find a LP neck pickup hard to dial in?

There's more to life than just amps?

have anyone tried to rise the polescrews?
this gives a slight single coil effect which is nice on the neck pup bass strings IMO

I've found wiring the pickup in parallel, instead of series, also helps.

MarT, have you tried the RS Upgrade Kit? I used to have this problem until I installed it! :D well worth the 60 bucks... I liked it so much I immediately ordered kits for my Strat and Tele... 8)

Yeha I have the rs kit. I have dialed in my amp better now, the neck pickup really sings now.

Listen to me know and believe me later. Before you setup your amp set your bridge tone to between 5-8. This will give you not only a more meaty midrangy sound but will give you treble headroom if you need it.

Pickup height and pickup pole piece height can make a difference too.

Well, arent JTM45's known to fart out on low notes when they're pushed hard? My understanding is that the neck pup should be relatively low in output, and the amps trannies have almost everything to do with the overload that occurs when pushed with "bass-y" notes. Any true JTM45 I've ever played thru HAD to have the bass turned down to 3 or 4 if the amp was played loud, ESPECIALLY on the neck pup, or it would fart out.
On the other hand, my Soldano, which has huge MM trannies, can have the bass set on 10, AND the depth set on 10 at all times, regardless of volume, and its always tight, even though the neck pup on my LP reads hot (8.09k) on a DVM. I think thats one of the reasons players upgrade to MM trannies. Correct me if Im wrong on this, but its the way it was explained to me.
