Whats your definition of "metal"
I dont think there really is a good High gain"metal" pickup. Invaders are garbage. Super D ( and Duncans ripoff of it -the distortion) and JB( and Air Norton, Dimarzios ripoff of it) are 70's-80's heavey rock. EMG's/ Lawrences are 80-'s90's heavy Metal a la Metallica.
Nothing has been invented since the advent of high gain amplifiers to take those ir places.
I'd say probably a Gibson Dirty Fingers ( and the Dimarzio Breed which seems to be similar) might be the closest to something that doesnt really exist; a dedicated high gain pickup that really works .
Believe it or not Peavey made some super high output pickups that are dynamite for high gain amps on some of their some of their Korean guitars. They arent to muddy or too bright. leave it to Peavey to innovate.
Again, stuff like the Gibson 500T and the Invader are total crap.Alot of older design ( Like JB) and some new design ( like DimarzioBreed) pickups work for heavy rock with hotrodded Marshall style Soldano SLO amps and such, but for the new High gain metal amps LIke Diezel and Bogner and the dueal rectos, I think there is a void, and some really good super high output pickup that work best with these amps IMHO, has yet to be perfected.
