I loved Jimi Hendrix so I routed pickup cavities opposite of the standard Strat so that the P/Us would be upside down. I wanted to have more of a "Jimi" tone . . . Pretty interesting thinking for a 17-year-old kid.For my next future Strat, I will use the reverse stagger Fralin Woodstocks, I prefer those to Fender's CS'69's.![]()
Then I heard Alcatrazz Live Sentence and put my guitar down for a month . . .

Yes when I was 17, I was aping Jimi Hendrix pretty hardcore myself, with the full Super lead stack, DA Fuzz Face and Italian Cry baby pedal, even coil cords..
Sure miss my transition logo 1965 Strat though, my first guitar and it was incredible, it was the last rosewood board Strat I ever had, I would have to pay a lot of money to return to what I had in 1968, now!! I was 11 years old in 1966 when I went to London, so I was 13 when I was doing all this early tone chasing.
It sure stays dyed in the wool, still Strat's have always been my ultimate guitar.
I never heard back from you about your opinion on the Fender maple cap boards, how do you feel about them, tone-wise? I love the maple cap on my NOS Washburn SS80, but that has a maple quilt top on a polar body, SD JB's and a Gotoh Floyd, so slightly removed from a '68 Strat..my original question was about how Jimi loved his two maple cap necked '68's and if he had these necks added or they came from the factory that way.
This was the thread..
