I woke up today and just had the biggest urge to try the Peter green mod on my standard. I just really wanted that nasal tone.

Well thats exactly what I got! I am absolutely IN LOVE with this mod. IMO its a must do, at least if you play blues, the standard middle position is fairly useless I find but not anymore! Great, Great tones and all just playing with the volume knobs, you can get it REALLY thin and nasally as you will notice or still quite thick with a hint of nasal.

So did you actually flip the magnet in the pickup around, or just flip the pickup? I've always had a hard time believing that he actually dug into the magnet when that pickup got flipped, but that's what everyone swears by.........

Flipped the magnet over like a pankcake. Flipping the pickup won't do anything.

Apparently the magnet was like that from the factory from Gibson. There have been a few guitars that have come stock out of phase by accident. The story is he installed it backwards by accident, but that doesn't have a difference in tone AFAIK.

Yeah, by looking at pictures, it seems that Gary Moore in the 70's, put the pick-up back too "stock" as the screws on the neck pick-up looked correct. But maybe I'm confused by what this mod entails.

Though really all you need to do to get your guitar to green specs is to get the wiring to 50's (RS guitarworks kit) and flip the neck pickup magnet.

Having the actual pickup flipped round does nothing to tone, all that has to be done is remove the magnet and flip it over.

Yeah, so Moore didnt flip it back over, only turned it. I always did hear that guitar as sounding very unique, now I know why . I will eventually own a good L.P standard , I hope, and when I do, I'm gonna do this mod.

Yeah he turned it but if he didn't flip the magnet at the same time it still would have been out of phase.

Its definitely a unique tone that IMO really makes the LP just that bit more versatile, super bluesy.

MarT, did you do this to your Dr. V's or to another pickup?

I do this mod to all my Pauls. With both volumes all the way up you get the hollow, nasal tone. But back off slightly on the bridge pickup, and it really beefs up, but the nasal is still there. Same thing in reverse if you roll off neck volume, more of the bridge takes over and it gets a nice cutting bridge like sound, but with the out of phase nasal. It just gives you so many more colors to paint with. And thats not even touching the tone knobs! Btw, I have quite a few pickups I'm probably gonna sell that have flipped magnets in them. I've tried a truckload of pickups trying to find the right one for the neck, and to compliment the BK VHII's in the bridge. What did I settle on? Plain old SD 59's.

Yeah I did them to the Dr V's. I was worried at first about getting the cover back on well since they are unpotted but it seems to be fine.

I got SD59s in one guitar with the 4 wire option. I have push pull switches on all 4 knobs and one puts the 2 pups out of phase and if I phuck with the vol/tone controls Peter shows up!
