P-90 in a Telecaster?

I'm at a crossroads gents. I was 99% sure that my next project was gonna be an improved version of Fenders 59' Esquire custom shop model. Authentic style with 1 pickup and original style wiring.
Suddenly, I played a schecter the other day that had a P-90 (Soapbar) in the neck. It blew me away. How does a Tele sound with a P-90 in the neck? What sounds cooler to you cats, real Equire or crazy bigsby equiped Tele/P90 hybrid.
Any thoughts welcome,
Travis
P.S Either of these will be built in the "Spared no expense" frame of thinking

A P90 works well in the neck position of a Tele - better than a HB IMHO. But it is best used with a not too bright bridge pickup.

You could find one of these, and see how you like it:
They are cheap, but well made. And it will give you an impression of how it sounds.

The bridge pickup that I'd like to use is the Blackguard Tele from Bareknuckle Pickups, which is a clone done off an original Broadcaster. This is supposed to be a hot(er) pickup, therefore a little darker. From the bridge I'm sorta after the BBC Sessions Page tone.
MacG...I'll check out my local music stored and I'll keep my eyes open, this project is a ways away from actually begining so in the meantime I'll continue to "research"(read play guitars I don't own) and figure out exactly the axe that I want.
Thanks guys, anybody else got an opinion?

I got that impression from the p90's, they had tons of grind, but they were controlable, unlike most neck humbuckers that I've tried. And I love single coils, so theres another plus.

If you want the sound of a P90, it can be done while retaining the look of a traditional Tele neck pickup (although a P90 looks cool in the neck position of a Tele). The sound of a P90 comes from how it's made (gauge of wire, number of turns, etc). You can have any pickup wound to sound like a P90 (assuming the winder knows what s/he's doing).
One way to go would be to have a traditional Tele neck pickup wound to sound like a P90. That way, if you didn't like the tone, you could swap it and still have the traditional routing.
I'd recommend checking out Lindy Fralin and Don Mare:

As a side note, Don Mare has a pickup called the Stelly, which is a Strat neck pickup disguised as a traditional Tele neck pickup. He even does a reverse Stelly, if you want Jimi strat-ish neck tones from a Tele.

Awesome!! Thanks man.
I've had to put this project on the back burner for a while, but I will hopefully bring it back this summer. I have a set of Mr. Fralins Vintage Hots in a strat and I love em to death.
I've got a set of Wolfetone Legends coming for my Les Paul Custom, so now that that is done, my next investement will be a new axe (Hopefully).
Cheers,
Travis
