What is the best thing to use to remove sweat/salt from a guitar's finish? After rehearsal or after we play live, I just wipe off the sweat from my guitars only enough to keep them from being put back in the case wet. I usually come home and clean them thoroughly afterwards. Well I didn't last Thursday night after rehearsal and after rehearsal tonight I have double crud on there. Anyone have any suggestions on what to use that I can apply then wipe off to remove this crud?

Dunlop polish/cleaner doesn't work, nor does Dr. Duck Axwax. I am apprehensive about using a wet rag to soften this stuff up again. The finish is Poly so at least the wood will be protected.

I thought Poly finishes could take pretty much anything? My old epi has had sweat/salt on it for many years, and except for all the scratches and scars it looks healthy. My R8, which has nitro finish gets it's abuse of sweat and stuff, but I think it takes many years for it to get eaten away. Besides, the dull patina look is cool IMO

Believe it or not, liquid car wax with a cleaner in it works great for that. (like Turtle wax with cleaner). Its used on car finishes, whether thats acrylic laquer, or poly. The stuff wont bother your finish, gets the gunk off your git real easily, and leaves a nice shine to boot. Used it for years, never a problem.

Naphtha works great on a nitro finish (don't know how it works on poly). Learned this from Dan Erlewine's books. You can go to the grocery store and buy some Rossinol lighter fluid - which is naphtha. Use a little at a time with a cloth, just don't let it stand. It cuts through any kind of gunk and it's safe on a nitro lacquer finish.
