I just put my new guitar together with a solid 1 piece Korina. Best guitar I've ever heard. Knew it before I even put a pickup in and played through an amp.

Actually that clip is with Japanese Ash, but this clip was done with a Korina Epi Explorer, very chunky and tight!

Did ed's destroyer have the v-2 pickup or the super 58 or 70? Im guessing that he left the same pickup in that it came with?

The Destroyers only came with the Super 70 (measures 7.75k to 8k + an alnico 8 magnet). My RWTD clip was with a Super 70 (7.92k).

Strat '78 has someone proven that the Ibanez Destroyers were made from "Japanese Ash"? I am not up on the newest info but am curious as to where this theory is coming from. Did someone take a small piece from the inside of the body and send it to a University to be analyzed or something? I am asking all this because I know that the Destroyers were laminated on the front and back with what looks like a species of ash, but the center wood looks EXACTLY like the endgrain of Black Korina to me, not to mention the guitar itself feels (weight-wise) and sounds like it.

I swear by Korina now. I can't stop playing this damn thing. It's so live and springy. I'm glad I put a fender type bridge on it too and not the floyd. I was at a friends over the weekend who had a brand new alder strat from Warmoth. Sounds beautiful too. He had a fender style tremolo in it but wanted to put a floyd in. So we changed it and it was very different after that. You know before you ever even plug it in too which in my book, says a whole hell of a lot. It really robs the warm organic wood vibe and makes it a bit brighter. Perhaps thinner too.

Good description there about what a Floyd will do to the sound of a guitar. I must admit though that tuning is a pain in he ass without one. I cant understand why Ed started using one (Floyd Rose), I mean, he kept his guitar in tune without it. Nobody back then could use thier bar like that 'live', cause they knew they couldnt tune up after the solo. Malmsteen comes close to keeping his in tune, but not like 'ol Ed did. I actually prefer the feel of using the Fender bridge, but the tuning ya know. I gotta get to where Ed was in terms of keeping it in tune.

I don't know if I've just been lucky or what but both my strats seem to hold on really really well. When I'm tuning them, I sort of work it in tune using the bar so that tolerances are sort of established. Always make sure that the nut is well lubed and/or it doesn't bind the strings in any way. I grind up a pencil tip and sprinkle the graphite (or lead) into the string channels. I'm trying a graphite nut on one guitar and it seems to be working pretty good too but perhaps a bit more dead sounding compared to the bone that I usually use. Now if you just hammer on the thing and dive bomb away in a runaway solo, than yeah, you'll probably have some issues but even then, some pulling and bending afterwards sometimes puts her back. Another thing that helps a lot is to use as few windings around the post as you can. Just less stuff to unwind and tighten up again will make it more accurate.

I dunno man....I think I like that version and tone better than VHI...lil bit slower...just sounds huge. Reverb is awesome.Cleans during the chorus are nicer than ed's. The solo part sounds a tad bit thinner than VH.

I agree about the pulling up part on the bar, that does work a bit. How many springs do you use ? Is your bar flush, floating or slightly floating ? I posted a thread a while back about keeping a stock Fender bridge in tune, there were great idea's, I just didnt try all of them. The superior tone of the Fender bridge sure makes trying worthwhile.
