Les Paul Wiring kits?

hey guys

im looking for a wiring kit, but it MUST be able to ship to the UK

i looked at the Mojo one, but it needs a 'State/Province', and we dont have them, so it messes everything up

can anyone recommend a wiring kit for me please?

Have you looked into RS stuff.

I have the RS Premium Vintage Kit in my LP and it's KILLER!!!!

I just did the volume, tone and Jensen caps - the caps are superb.

That's crazy!!! I've had parts ship over from the UK before, for far less than that........arrival time was always very reasonable as well!!

yeah exactly, come on, how much is a couple pots and switch gunna weigh?

i think im gunna have to get them from somewhere else,

anyone got any kits theyd recommend, or a place where they get all there pots, jacks etc from?

Hey, Cole. I have been hearing a lot about the RS stuff. Im curious, what is the difference between that and Gibson parts? Is it really better than just getting some 300k/500k Gibson pots (which is supposed to be vintage spec), some high quality braided shield wire and a good switchcraft jack? Even the tone caps, if a high quality cap was used, I cant understand what the difference would be between that and the RS equipment. I've used Gibson-spec stuff for years, and never thought the tone of the guitar, or the control response needed improvement. Whats the benefit of the RS controls?

A lot about RS is completely shady and overpriced to me. The whole idea of matching the pots is laughable to me. Not only is it not authentic to begin with, what one single reason would make a matched set of pots sound better in a guitar then a random set? More likely an excuse for the price being double what it should for the parts alone and not really an excuse since it takes all of 2 seconds to read a pot and label it. And the custom taper? Then these $17 paper in oil caps from jensen? I appluad what RS is doing but at the same time it seems to me they are pillaging that particular niche market. Components arent usually something you make lots of profit on if your not selling thousands of them but they found a way didnt they.

Ive always upgraded my electronics and basically go with the whole RS idea. Vintage wiring scheme with the CTS pots (not matched tho

) and high end caps. I used to buy Hovlands which is what used to come with RS kits. Now I use SoZo's which are also- Paper in Oil.

Id like to try thos Jensens RS sells but I wont.

A decent switch is useful tho. Ive never had a stock gibson whose switch didnt get stupid after a few months of heavy playing.

When you think about it, the electronics there are as important as anything in the amp. Its why you can hear a few extra turns in a pickup. Every little detail of the tone from the pickup, including the effect on that signal from the passive parts on the guitars controls, gets amplified in every stage in the amp.

Thats what I was thinking, Billy. For LP type guitars, I've always used 300k for volume, and 500k for tone, with .01 caps (much more usable, especially with distortion, and kinda "aged" sounding compared to .022 caps), and at least to me, my guitar sounds great. I never bothered with the .001 cap across the hot/center lug of the volume pot, simply because I LIKE the way the highs get rolled off somewhat when I turn the guitar down. I dunno... Im gonna stick with what I know works. PS-I feel the same way about Tonepros bridges. Lots of hype, expensive, and without much audible benefit, at least to my ears.

I think the RS stuff is more about the quality oif the components more then the values. You can get 300k's Im pretty sure but even so Id just buy some CTS pots a $4 a pop and whatever caps I thought sound best for the tone control. Theres no doubt in my mind that decent passives there make the tone of the guitar a little crisper especially when your using the controls. I had 'brite' caps on my volumes for a little while but in the end I didnt like it. Maybe just a little 47p to keep some shimmer when I clean up by rolling back the volume knob. High values make my LPs sound like their doing half assed strat knockoffs when I roll back. But I do do the neck=clean/rolled-back setup so a little extra high end from 47p works for me. I may or may not have it in series with a 100k-220k.

Yup, that about sums it, Switchcraft & CTS. Cap of choice.

I would go for that eBay auction and leave the RS thing alone considering where your at.

I like the 300K's also because I use my pots as a volume pedal (not full on all the time) so I like the gradual taper.

I like RS stuff... I used one of thier kits in a LP GT and did hear a difference. Especially in the cap which has a very smooth tone and even roll off... It worked for me.
Inflated on their prices, perhaps. I hate that sometimes you have to "pay-to-play"

Crap!! It shouldn't be that difficult for you to get the parts!! If you have that much trouble let me know and I'll assemble a "wiring kit" for you and ship it for cost

I'll tell you what...I'll help you get your wiring kit and you help me get my Castelco plastic bat switch toggles that I'm going through hell to order from the U.K, OK??

-The distributor won't reply to my e-mail, I'm having trouble sending the international FAX, blah blah blah...

I second the recommendation for RS Guitarworks. I added their set to my 59 Reissue Les Paul. Great stuff.
