I recently put one in a cheap strat-knock-off neck, just to make sure I could install it properly myself.before I installed one on a good neck.
If you are going to use a tremolo with it , you should have someone, that works with metal, file the grooves in the nut a little wider so your strings don't hang up.
I did this and I use some graphite powder in it and it works really good.
It sounds killer when you snap those high b & e strings open.
BUT, I fought HARD with the local guitar guru that usually sets up my guitars.
I finally gave up and did it myself, he kept trying to talk me out of it and swore bone was 10 times better.
I'm in the middle of building a real nice guitar - and I love it too- so it's getting a brass nut or maybe a wilkinson or LSR roller nut!
but once you hear Eddie did it ...... ya just gotta try it...I guess

bone is good, i've had strats with brass nuts for 25 years, i like them myself. used to just get a block & whittle it out.
