Building a guitar and will need someone to install the brass nut properly and also cut the grooves 'wider' to allow the strings to move more.

Know anyone who is good at doing this?

Honestly installing a nut of any material (within reason) should be little effort for a decent guitar tech.

What kind of adhesive would you use?

I use Superglue I have heard others use white glue. I don't like white glue because it is thick and you need to clamp the nut to get nut to neck contact you don't need to do that with superglue it only takes a couple drops. Make sure the fit is perfect against the head stock and fret board on nuts that go at the end of the board like Gibsons. On Strat style nuts you don't even need glue if the fit is tight enough. If the slots are started it is easy to widen the slots with the proper nut files. If the slots aren't started you need a special ruler from Stew Mac for sting spacing. Strings are not evenly spaced center to center they are spaced edge to edge in other words the gaps between the strings are even. Any decent tech should be able to help you.

I made one out of Navel Brass once before. It was the first time I did one and it came out perfect. I wanted to try to eliminate a dead sounding cheap double neck SG I had at the time hoping that swaping the plastic nut for a metal one would help with the sustain properties. It didn't, but that thing sure had a bright finish! But like 908ssp says, Stew Mac will have everything you need to know on how to do it. For that matter, if your building a guitar, the Nut should not be more challenging than what you've done up to that point. Go for it!

I have a shop and do this type work, I am about 90 miles north of Dallas Tx, its not hard to install yourself? but if you want it done contact me,be happy to do it. Steve

I am 15 miles north of the Red river in Oklahoma, the town is small is why I say 90 miles north of Dallas as a reference point. bluze

Remember, nuts dont last forever, someone(maybe you) will have to remove it one day.

Thats right. The nut will be held down with the string pressure until it is either restrung or replaced. Benedetto uses just a drop or so of super glue in his builds. That way, it takes just a light tap with a block of wood to free it.
