Hey Fellers,

I was talking to Jim (the Scumbag) and he mentioned that he prefers the weaker Burstbucker I for bridge position because it actually sounds a little sweeter. This would jive with how my old 69 Custom used to sound.

Currently, I have Burstbucker I's in the neck and middle positions of my Black Beauty, and a II in the bridge.

Do any of you cats have a preference for BB in the bridge position? I thought I might try BB I out just to see.

Try it! I have the BB1/BB2 combo in my R8, and the bridge BB2 can get a little harsh at times (it can be dialed in pretty good though).

I have no personal experiance of this, but some owners of vintage les pauls have said that they prefer it when the weaker PAF sits in the bridge pos and the stronger sits in the neck...

Cool! Yeah, my experience is similar to yours in that I noticed the BB2 can get a bit harsh, but you can dial it back some to help it out.

I'll give it a try and report back!

Jim at WCR told me about Burstbuckers and their amazing production and I had to laugh..I'll let him tell it if he wants.

I have a set of Burst buckers in my 73 Les Paul Cuistom BLk Bty and they the most organic open and rigch sounding p/ups ive heard . specially over the poverley compressed seymours and dimarzios which i was arabid fan of for years. I like the blooming sustain of tmy bus=rstbuckers. I want otry that other one know he makes. GOOD wood fat and juicy! :>) GREAT GREAT p/upd thid cmes from a 20++ yr vet on the cene. I like thier stuff. THats all.

I have a 1&2 in my '05 '57 RI BlackBird .
Like them for now.
Had Lindy's in my '60... Very Nice... but, replaced them with Authentic Jimmy Page LP PAF's. Killer !

I replaced my bridge burstbucker with a Holmes and Voodoo 59 (not sure which I like best). But I kept the stock neck pickup. I agree that they are a little bright.

UPDATE:

I yanked the Burstbuckers. I put some Fralin PAFs in my three pickup Custom (8.5k in the bridge 7.5k in the other spots.)

WAY BETTER! I don't know what Gibson is trying to pull with these things, but they don't cut it. They totally cave when you push them. You can hit the Fralins as hard as you want and they just keep getting louder and beefier. Then, you back off (just on your pick attack) and they get all jangly and clean. LOVE'EM!!

Well, at least I was able to use the gold covers from the Burstbuckers to put on my Fralins!!

I actually like the burstbuckers in my R8, but I just ordered a set of high order pickups wound to my own specs. PE wire, alnico 2, 7,4K and 8,1K, unpotted humbuckers. I'm pretty excited, but they wont be done in about 8 weeks (he's just one guy winding each pickup), but with his prices I don't mind waiting.
