I have been rebuilding an Epi Sheraton ll, basicallyan ES355. Wood is great, electronics suck.

My latest setup is SD Pearly Gates and a Mojotone pre-wired harness. The SD in the bridge is way too high end for me. The Mojotone harness has .022's as tone caps. SD's wiring diagram shows .047's.

I have a WCR Crossroads bridge on the way. This is the last time I'm taking the f'n guts out of this axe

What do you guys think of the .022 vs the .047 for the bridge? The neck SD is a good balance with the .022.

Opinions?

To be honest, Chief, I think .022's are still too muffled, at least for my tastes. I like .01's, cause they sound great if you're using some gain. Its certainly not as dramatic as .022's, but IMO, they're more usable and musical. They seem to let you use the entire rotation of the tone control, as opposed to .022's where past half on the tone pot starts sounding like you threw a blanket in front of the speakers. For me, a .047 would be useless. WAY too much top end taken off. That WCR Crossroads should be a killa in the bridge position. What are you using for a neck pickup?

Got a JM in the neck and that sounds nice and warm with the .022, fill.

Looking at the SD site it looks like all his PAF versions have a high rating in the top end. I don't like an overly bright tone. The Sheraton is not the axe to be experimenting on. Semi hollows are just a pain in the ass to snake the harness in and out of.

oops, that was last one. I have a Pearly Gates in the neck now. The JM with a Hovland .01 still sounded muddy...

+1 on that, Chief. I've worked on a few semi's, and I've always dreaded getting those parts back in without grounding something out, or catching a wire on some other part. Usually if I do major surgery inside a semi hollow, Ill make a template out of thin plexiglass of the hole placement, and wire most of it outside the guitar, and then go thru that whole "snaking it in" process using string to pull the pots, switch and jack into place. One trick I learned is to put shrink tube over any exposed shield co-ax wire, so if it touches something "hot", it wont ground it out. Those guitars are a real evil pain in the ass when it comes to wiring.

That's what I'm saying (or asking).

SD lists these pickups with tone balance like this (Bass/Mid/Treble)

So they all seem to be wound bright as opposed to Dimarzio's..

I don't like an overly bright PU. Looks like I have a draw full of SD's to go on ebay instead of guitars....

I have a set of Jeff's pickups in a guitar. Love 'em! This was supposed to be one of those quick and dirty projects...
