Currently I have a bone nut on my strat. I was thinking about getting a brass nut, but I am not sure. Any thoughts?

I'm willing to bet any of you guys that on the same guitar if installed a brass nut, a bone nut and a plastic nut you couldn't tell the difference if your life depended on it.... i did this crap in the 80's
Edward used a brass nut because he tore through plastic nuts using his stock trem. ( lubing them up as well as the use of the whammy ate them up ) simple as that.
the moral of the story - a brass nut will last longer. period.

+1... The only time any tonal difference would be heard anyway would be on open strings, and even at that it would be minimal at best. Once you fret a note, that brass nut is out of the picture. The bridge type makes a WAY bigger diff in your tone. Go with a brass or bone nut for longevity, but neither is the answer to waking up a "sleepy" guitar. Forget plastic~~it doesnt belong on a guitar except for knobs and switch tips, and it wears out too fast for a nut.

Divebomb, Ed's frankenstrat neck is a compound radius right? What are the radius' ? 12 and 16 ? Oh yeah, does it transistion from 12 to 16, at the 12 th fret?
What about the radius your replica guitar?

I do a 12" radius. I'm really not sure about the compound radius on the replica.
The transition from 12 to 16 would be along the entire length of the fretboard.
I just had my work compared next to an outrageously priced replica at a very notable store here in Houston. Without saying any names I will say that they said my guitar looked better, played better and seemed more like a 30 year old guitar. You can call bull shit on this if you want, but it's true.

Rock style incorps. alot of open string riffs and licks, and dive with trem...so
