Hey Happy New Year,

I'm stayin out of trouble and hanggin while my GF is heading to the casino tonight ( I justify buying gear from the money I make so I won't blow it at these Casino down here.. you should see the tourist throw away money )

Anyway as my tag notes Slide, its my love.

WHO else plays slide on an LP here??? Gots to be many!!

I use a 76 Delux for my main slide setup but when the Vintage tubes in my Marshall is boiling I'm looking for a sound like Betts or Warren or Duane sustain.

There's got to be some slide players wiyh an ideal setup. I love the sound and playing my strat but for some reason not for slide . Its got to be an SG or a LP. Since I've benn playing my single cone metalbody lately I'm
really hearing that Fillmore sound..

My LP standard needs a kick to get it to sing witout alot of distortion.
That subtle extra harmonic driven sustain to the sound, not upfront in you face distortion pushing the sound color in front of the song. This is ok for like EJ stuff but gets old quick with a locked in vibe IMO.

BTW there's is a small club down on thr LES thats set away from the headliner clubs like Grocery (?) and it jams (loud on Sundat nights) I'll be visiting home in a few weeks for a few days if anybody want to take some time. We can take the place over with a good tip to the owner and use the house drummer.( WHO KNOW's ) That would be dynomite in a hip hop fashion LOL They'd let us sneek some 100w gear in. Hey now CBGB's done there is a vaccume of place for us older guys. This club is flying under the radar screen. so are the patrons LOL

Mmmm... slide guitar... my 2nd wife. Yeah, I play slide a lot. The WCR Fillmore's are really the shit for playing slide, and Ive posted before that they're just about my favorite pickups. I had them in a Les Paul, and now they're in my SG. To me, they sound awesome, especially for slide, but they ARE a pretty specific tone, maybe not for everyone. The best way to describe them is exactly by their name: Fillmore's. Specifically thru a '69-'71 50 watt Marshall, they nail Duane Allman's tone DOWN. They sound great thru just about any amp, but they kill thru a cranked 50 watt.
For electric, I try to keep it in standard tuning, but it takes some practice to get std tuning to sound good. My Nats pretty much stay in either open E, A or D.

2nd Wife??? that could be good or bad!!!

+1 for standard tuning for elec. playing. its good for normal palying and kicking in the slide for a lick or two. The right hand dampening is key
in standard IMO

WS - ever thought about P90's? My R6 with P90's has a nice bit of sparkle and character that would LOVE some slide action.

I play a lot of slide. The first guitar I used for that was a Gibson SG Std. from 1980. Too head heavy and thus difficult to control.
I then switched to a Les Paul. That was better but difficult to access the higher frets.
I got a really good slide tone with an Explorer. This was also very nice to play but did not stay in tune well.
Right now I have set up my Swamp Ash Special clone to play slide. The guitar has WCR Fillmores in it. It sounds very warm and full.
With my country rock band I just use the same guitar(s) I use for regular playing (Teles and Strats). Works good enough for me.

All of what you posted here is true, and its why I've developed a love affair with Gibson Firebirds. I absolutely LOVE them for playing slide on, and in a perfect world, I would find a Firebird III (I LOVE the wrap tailpiece for its tone) that someone had already routed for a full size bridge humbucker, and left the stock FB neck pup.
I could never in good conscience route a vintage guitar myself, but if it was the right price, I dont care if someone ELSE did it. That combo of a PAF bridge pup and a FB neck pup in a wrap tailpiece FB??? Well, I could sell half my guitars at that point!! (maybe) /
