68 Strat Neck
I'm convinced its all in the neck and the pickups for the most part for Strats at least.
I'm really likeing the mid to late 60's necks. Nitro or Poly bodies, they sound great. What I like the most is these guitars (Oly, Blk, Snbrst,)
and hopefully, this new soon DB, sound as best as I've ever had a Strat sound. I don't build amps but work on them, but it must be similiar the feeling when it sounds out and its.... anyway http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vi ... AQ:US:1123

FTFI- I wish all sellers offered this.
The seller of this Strat neck sent me more pics just now, and reassured
me how good this neck plays . With this and pictures the seller made it clear I can return the neck if I wasn't satisfied.
Now thats not bad, and its this kind of arraingments that will tip the scale to buy and norrow the chance of a bad deal.

yeah I tend to agree, a grand for a 90's neck, but a JH tribute may
tip the scale towards it. Sound and Feel is the magic combination, but under one or the other like sound that could be slightly different from neck to neck. My #1 has a different sweet spot than #1b but both are Supreme.
I just recieved 2 '68 necks from the seller I mentioned in my first post.
The jury will be out before the time I'm allowed to send the necks back for a refund. At this point I don't want to pull my players apart to test it.
They need a few days to settle in with the string tension to get a complete
feel IMO.
One is suppose to be an early transition 68 before the large Strat. logo and is a player worn in has 22 JUN68B on the butt
I'm suspect on the decal being original.
The other is a later one with the familiar Large Strat logo on the headstock
says 22DEC86B looks ok but doesn't look like a worn player that raises
concern but its aged. If they sound good and feel like butter I'm set no matter what. I'll probanly find late 60 colored bodies. Teal Blue?
Sherwood Green?

My broe was thinking about having his tribute strat (The one I mentioned with the bad re-finish) in a different color (since its not original anyway). I suggested sherwood green. I always liked that color.

I just got ( or soon to bereceived) set of Abigail Ybarra wound '54 masterbuilts pups that will be classic with my builds.
She IS a part of THE vintage Fender sound. These are 2004 special wound by Abbigail to her '54 spec. so i figure if I take my used, beat, '68 neck and with a nice bod, a pearloid pickguard, and AB's '54's it should be a sleepr that smokes. I'm using one of her mid 60's pup's now but its a nice under wound.
Anybody familiar with these custom shop AY's '54's?
BTW I know there are other good pupwinders out there and some that frequent this forum, but AB are classic IMO like Harley's.
Can I hijack my own thread?

Got a nice lite in weight, thin skin nitro surf green Fender body, strung and adjusted the neck and now after a few days sounds exceptional
with that familiar feel I'm looking for. I use my #1 to base line what I'm
shooting for in terms of adjustment and sound. I do find a neck may take a day or two to settle in and may need more minor adjusting.
The surf green looks sweet and have an old 3 ply wht guard on now but I 'm looking for an aged Pearloid guard if anybody has or knows of one.
I'll also put in Abigail Yabbara wound masterwork pups in this and should be a smoker.
Here is a link to a topic reguarding how necks can change the tone or sound of a guitar. (Fender)
