Got a question guys. My son called and said someone wanted to know if he was interested in the above. I just wondered what the consensus was about this model. I don't know the exact model or year or anything (or price ) I told him I'd ask around and see if it was a decent guitar.
What would be a fair price for one? I'm assuming it's relatively new and the kid needs the money. New ones seem to be around $1200. What would be a decent price for used? Thanks !

LP Studios are pretty much the bottom of the Les Paul line. They feature no frills finishes, no binding, possibly thinner bodies (I think??), etc. Not worth the $$ I'd say. Much better off going with a used LP Standard.

They are a dime a dozen on ebay, I agree with the above... But thats just me, I used to have one and they are great intro/intermediate level guitars. I bet some pro's even use them. $450 to $750 I would say.

Yes, the body is a little thinner (read less shoulder strain) and there's no binding........big deal. A good guitar for the money. Good luck finding one for $450, but I've seen used ones in stores for $600 with some noticeable wear and tear, $800-$900 for a nicer one maybe.
I've still got the '96 Studio I bought brand new. Nice axe. (In fact I deliberately wanted the wine red Studio with gold hardware -- liked the look and still do.)

Thanks guys. For all that don't know, I don't play, I enjoy building amps. Therefore I am at your mercy to keep me informed of what or what not is a decent guitar. All your opinions are appreciated. He'll be home for the weekend tomorrow and I'll find out a little more about it.

This will give you a general Idea anyway.. It is the lower end model but it is still a USA made gibson les paul none the less.
I hope this helps.

Well the boy doesn't seem like he's to interested in having another guitar ( read that as him buying one ) I don't think he even asked what the price was and looking at ebay auctions shows prices all over the place.
What would be a decent LP for a college student who gigs a few times a month?

I've actually thought the same thing. I bought him an epiphone sheraton II a few years ago and he really likes that. Plays that one a lot and hasn't forgotten it yet but house parties scare me
