Dimarzio's new PAF Bridge

Post by TheDarkness » Sat Feb 23, 2008 7:46 pm

This pickup just came out this year. I saw one on ebay that this guy claims "I picked up this new model at NAMM", at that time it wasn't on the Dimarzio website so I had no idea what this pickup was. I wish I had bought it though, no one carries them yet. I love Dimarzio's original PAF and supposedly this is the bridge version of it. However they are now making their vintage line pickups look the way they did back in the 70's. I think this is a good thing. It sports the extra slit in the bobbins(Dimarzio stopped doing this some time in the late 80's I think), and no longer has the brassback. The heels are squared off like back in the day too. Alnico V(Yes!) w/ 8.60k. Just check out the Dimarzio website, I just thought this was a cool edition to their vintage line. If anyone has this pickup, please let me know how it sounds. 8)

That's interesting, I will have to take a look. I remember the look and the sound of those early Dimarzio Pafs well. They had a very nice sound, fat and tuneful. One of the better PAF types at the time.

Yep, that's the one. I saw some more on ebay. They still look like all the other pickups, only the back is silver. I haven't seen any that look like the classic w/ square cuts and extra slit yet. Maybe the one's I keep seeing are the first batches? Well I hope they do go back to original cosmetics. I wont buy one anyway till I hear a few reviews.

Ok, I'll look into them. Alnico V and around the 8-9k range usually makes me happy. There are many great PAF clones out there. I'm also going to get one built by High Order. I am completely satisfied w/ a Dimarzio PAF in my ash body, but different guitars like different pickups.

Only place I can find offering them. It's in the 65$ range. Musiciansfriend and Samedaymusic probly wont be carrying them for another couple of months as they are brand new. There are still a couple on ebay as well. If you are getting this pickup, please let me know how it sounds!

Now about the traditional DP103 PAF introduced in the early 70's, I was looking around at the Dimarzio site and noticed that they had changed it to be more of a neck pickup  Probably to go along with the newly introduced Bridge version. It now reads 7.31 as opposed to the 8.6 it used to be. I'm sure it's still a great pickup, but why did they have to change it!!! I loved putting the dp103s in bridge positions, they had the perfect output! It just angers me a little. At least there are plenty of old ones for sale out there, and they are cheap too. Hope the new bridge pickup makes up for it.

Im a WCR Junky, seeking rehab as we speak! Jim is the God of pups, thats my personal assumption, clean crisp powerfull harmonically tuned pickups!!
Hey mark that clip you did over @ wcr was that V or II, and which mags do you like better and why?Everyone says V however the one with II in her seems more rich smoother less darker then the V.
