I just found this website called www.floydupgrades.com where they sell oversized brass bloakcs, titanium, stainless steel nut clamp screws etc. Anyway, have any of you bought into this stuff and feel it is better than some of the original Floyd stuff?? I would think some of this stuff is better quality but how would it effect tone??

I almost pulled the trigger on a brass block this past week-end ... the price of those titanium parts are just ridiculous.

Marco did you try you brass block already? Is it a Frankenstraat or a Divebomb? I would think these are identical.

no not yet, it will be in replica though. i have one, they are all the same as far as metal but i think mine is 42mm i got from Frankenstraat. i tried it in the frankie and could tell the difference in tone and sustain......it was fuller sounding and sang for days. it balanced the guitar a little too since the body is fairly light.

Aluminum might be too light ... the purpose of these blocks is to add as much mass as possible to the FR.

Marco, Did you have to disassemble the Floyd bridge to attach the new brass block?..I believe there is 3 or 4 screws that hold it to the main piece or was it just a simple removal from the underneath?

Yes unfortunately. Make sure you have around 1/4" space in the cavity to accomadate the block otherwise youll have to route the body a little.

I put that large "brass" block on my floyd and it made a huge difference in sustain and seem to fatten up the overall sound.
I got mine Here: http://search.ebay.com/_W0QQfgtpZ1QQfrp ... FSQ3aMESOI

haven't done it yet, but some of the original FR Bridges had bigger brass blocks. I am pretty sure Ed's did as well as some of those non fine tuner floyds. Back when I worked at Charvel Vinnie Vincent loved those old non fine tuner floyds with big brass blocks.

Yeah, Brad Gillis also loves the non fine tuning Floyds as Well. Matthias Jabs black '63 strat with the lone Bill Lawrence hb also had the origional non fine tuning Floyd. I definatly have opinions as to the sound of Floyds. I definatly think that if you have guitar that sounds good with one (mine does) which doesnt seem to be very many, then you have a guitar that is very versatile and dependible. Is it just me, or does the floyd sorta give a guitar a sorta 'Gibson' type tone quality ? I mean, for what it takes away from a Fender type bridge, it adds an almost tunomatic stop tailpiece sorta quality. Hard for me to describe.
