1954 JB OXBLOOD

Man I love this guitar and after tweaking the '52 Goldtop to the max, still have a hankering for this beauty, more than any Historic, seriously.
Wrap tailpieces are the bomb, loved my '54 Junior. Here is a cool video of a JB:

Yup, they sure are purty, but I keep breaking strings on 'em, guess I did in waaaay too deep.
Had to go for a badass with fine tuners to get around it. Keeps the feel right, even if it looks all wrong. Tone's not too bad either.

Had a chance to pick up a 2005 8.6 lb - Brazillian Board but didn't act fast enough and vanished. Got a 9.2 pounder for a little while.
I will say though that these are not exactly a LP Standard sounding guitar.
It has it's own unique tone. Somewhere between the Standard and the spanky tone of a Junior.

How do you guys play Les Pauls!
I find them really funny to play especially to shred. My brother has a Les Paul Standard with a AAA flame maple top. He plays it very little, use the custom strat more.

Sweet clip Jimi James, love the tone range of that Oxblood, the wraptail bridge really compliments the humbuckers, allowing a unique timbre, that you just don't get with an ABR-1, great as they are.
To me the '54 Bloods are big Juniors on steroids and awesome.
Though my next guitar is going to be a Stratocaster I feel.

I love those JB LPs. So much that I'm building a new LP DC witha PRS wraparound tailpiece. THe only thing that causes issue on the JB LP is that you have to have the tailpiece so freakin' close to the bridge humbucker. I don't like when LPs have that too bitey, icepicky tone. My LP will have the HB just alittle closer to the neck... but not much.

There is the new Hamer Daytona I think it is Pro model out and it has a wraparound with HB's and the bridge is moved forward as you are proposing.
Granted it gets a bit crowded as in the original Blood, but that was part of the charm..as far as the positioning of the treble pickup being ice-picky, I think that some tone control working and the fact that there is some cool type tones to be had from digging in over the pickup, would override any drawbacks.

And lookie there...a pic of JB playing a strat with a humbucker in it in '71? Well before EVH.
