I was thinking about getting a lightweight tailpiece for my Les Paul classic.. Is there a noticeable difference in tone.. What is a good brand ?

Definitely brings a Lester to life. I did it to mine and did the wrap around thing as well which makes string bends easier and string angle more accurate. Tone wise probably more woody sounding.

So exactly how does one order these parts? Call BCR? I didn't see 'em on their website.

Yes it is very confusing at first, as there is no direct mention of Pigtail parts on their website. Just call and ask for Greg at BCR Music and Sound, tell him Dave from Phoenix sent you.. , no you don't have to say that, although he should give me some kickback for all the free advertising I have been doing for him, but I won't go there.
Greg is very good at relicing or aging the parts if you need them to match an older guitar.
You can look at Pigtails website itself, but Steve the one man army who designs and builds Pigtail, does sell them directly, but search LPF and you will come to the understanding that it is better to buy from BCR Greg!
They have great prompt service and Greg is very knowledgable.
I always tell people to don't hesitate to order as I had to wait a few months for the next shipment for my parts.
You won't regret it and they are worth waiting for, superbly made parts and as I say ad nauseum, I would gladly change out real '50's parts for Pigtail, the quality and sound improvement is that incredible.

That looks better. For $130 the Pigtail had better be prepared to give me a little BJ action on the side, in addition to better tone.

The piece made for Stew Mac, is I repeat for the 2nd time, not the same vintage correct piece!!

No BJ just tone, the SMac part is not the vintage tailpiece, of course it's cheaper. If cheap is what you want, good for you.
You guys need to hang out at the LPF, to really see people blow some bucks. Gotoh isn't even in the same ballpark.
Sometimes you can be wrong...if you have actually tried them then I would respect your opinions. I don't have money to blow on GAS or that kind of thing, so for my money in my opinion, the best money I have ever spent.







Nothing wrong with Gotoh, I have Nashvilles and stoptails from Gotoh fitted aftermarket to my Gary Moore Heritages, they aren't like a real vintage piece. It's like a high performance vintage piece.

Gotoh makes an excellent aluminum tail piece and this is the one I use on my Lester. Unlike others I've tried the Gotoh fits snug to the posts so the tail piece doesn't rock back and forth. If you look at some of the tail pieces being sold they have a sloppy fit thus allowing the tail piece to bind when string tension is applied. I know some have the Allen screws to fix the problem but if the tail piece and studs are machined to close tolerances the crews aren't needed. I haven't tried Pigtail, but I've heard nothing but good about them, however the information they provide on their site is vague when it comes to ordering their stuff.

Ricky, you make a good point that's why I say order from BCR Music and Sound, Greg. Dealing with Steve (Pigtail) direct, is not something I would want to do!!
