I am thinking about building a Warmoth Tele and need some opinions. I am using the guitar for a Classic Rock sound and clean leads. I don't want it too bright or too much bass (I have 3 les pauls). What body would you recommend Alder or Mahogany with maple top. Should I go hollow body or solid? For the bridge pickup should I go humbucker or single coil? I know this is subjective but I only played a fews Tele's at the local guitar store. I did like the G&L Asat Deluxe semi hollow and maple neck. If I got mahogany body can I use a brighter neck wood to get a little less bass?

alder is a great tonewood, real versaile. mahogny is often to heavy and muddy sounding unless you get honduran mahogny. about half of the tone of the tele comes from the bridge! you need a glendale bridge or callaham and a single coil. if you want thick sound, go with an early 50s pup - not the later ones.

hollow is great if you want a tad more compression and fatness

I actually was leaning towards a more classic style Tele like the one Gary Moore uses in the video. I was thinking either 1) Warmoth Hollow Body with Maple top, Maple neck, Kingwood or Brazilian Rosewood Fretboard, Jumbo SS frets, Tele bridge with single coils.
2) Solid Alder body,Maple top, Maple neck, Kingwood or Brazilian Rosewood Fretboard, Jumbo SS frets, Tele bridge or Grotoh Tremelo bridge, with single coils.

Don´t get stainless steel frets. They sound too bright, and are harder to dress. And go for the vintage truss rod. The modern, "Double expanding truss rod", from Warmoth don´t sound as warm. And you don´t need more brightness in a Tele...

vintage tross rod is a must if you want the fender sound!

Thanks for that info. I did not know that about the truss rods and the SS frets have that effect. I definetly don't want brighter sound. I have a JCM800 RI that I use which is a little trebly. I have a Metro 100w plexi that I use also, which will be mainly for this guitar.
