1957 les paul VOS re-issue

Post by lifer » Sun Dec 21, 2008 3:04 pm

i have the above guitar....i love it, feels great, blah,blah,blah.....

thing is, i'm not real crazy about the "burst bucker" Pups.

i'm a little torn, here... in a way i don't want to "molest" it....but i'm also

thinking it's "just" a re-issue, who cares, ya know?

thoughts? comments, please !!

It's only molesting if the guitar doesn't like it when you're done.

LOL!

Lifer, my vote would be to go for it. My R8 has Throbak pickups, Dr. Vintage wiring kit, Pigtail bridge and tailpiece studs, etc., and the mods have improved the sound of the guitar. If you're not digging the Burstbuckers (can't blame you for that!) go ahead and swap them out. If you're worried about resale value, just hold onto the Burstbuckers so you can put them back in or include them with the guitar if you ever sell it.

yes, it must be a nice guitar !
i love the one page used at teh royal albert hall, with bigsby ! great tone !
i have a 95' les paul custom 54' ri i really love but it's not exactly the same .
i love those custom 54 and 57' as they are different from the les paul 58 , 59 and 60 as well as from the les paul custom, because they don't have the maple top (although i like it as well in my 59' ri's) .
you shouldn't mind replacing the pu' s if you don't like them , as long as you keep them .

+1K mwm523 great stuff done to your Lester. lifer, go for it man, you only live once, on earth that is. Pigtails are a great start and wake up the guitar to no end, I think I'm known for that opinion already  . The pickups, take into account the weight of your guitar, the thickness of the finish. Some guys on LPF polish out their VOS guitars also. There are so many pickups to choose from, the Throbaks seem a good choice. Burstbuckers aren't to everyones taste and in fact many prefer the '57 Classics to them!
Gold is good though! :)

it seems there are some good T-tops clones made by throbak but not everybody like T-tops as they are quiet clean and transparent sounding pu's with not much output but i like them.
