OK my wife bought me a Ibanez S series guitar last year for X-mas.
It’s an S520EX if I remember. It’s all black PU’s hardware etc.
I like it just fine except for the PU tone and the fact that it has no fret markers on the board just this little tear pattern that go’s across the 11,12,13th frets.
So I am wondering just how hard it would be to install just your basic dot markers on the fret board.
Also if anyone has any PU recommendations I would like to hear them, I was told this guitar has a mahogany body but I have no way to tell for sure.
It dose seem to have plenty of sustain it just sounds dark to my ears.
It would be cool if I could get something with a plain black satin cover like the factory PU. I just like the look of the all black guitar it would be just cooler if it sounded more like LP

Re: ADDING FRET MARKERS?
The way I do dot inlays in a fretted neck is not very complex. The most important thing is the drill bit you use. You have to have a forstner bit. This bit makes the bottom of the hole flat and also has a sharp point for accurate positioning of the holes. I use a 1/4 size and put in the same size dots. Be careful not to drill to far, about a 1/16 of an inch. I usually do this all on a drill press, but it could be done with a hand drill if you are very careful. Glue in the dot with a dab of super glue, let dry for a while, level off with a very fine file and then sand with 400, 600, 800 sandpaper with the grain, always with the grain. Lastly hit the whole fingerboard with 0000 steel wool and you are done. As for the pickups I am a PAF kinda person so the closer the better to the original for me.

Re: ADDING FRET MARKERS?
I don’t know if I am brave enough to do it myself? I would hate to make a bo-bo
So ball park what should it cost to have it done?
As for the PU should I just try a Gibson replacement or should I look at a Duncan or Dem equivalent? I really like the traditional LP punchy/singing thing. I really like Gary Moore tone on that SGTB record!
You people will have to excuse me because I just started playing again almost 2 years ago, after putting it down for 17years.
So I am not very up to speed with what kind of goodies are available nowadays.

Yea the more I look around the more I’m getting that feeling. The amp kits look awesome and from the clips they sound great also.
I can’t believe what happened to the price of the originals. Man I should have just stuck all that stuff in the back room, I think I could pay off my house if I sold those amps today!
