Sozo's in my R7 Les Paul

Post by Mars Hall » Wed Jan 21, 2009 2:43 am

A couple days ago I installed standard Sozo's in my R7. I kept the values stock (.022) and the guitar is still wired as it was from the factory. Currently being refered to as "modern wiring" on other forums I visit.

The tone seems the same, when tone controls are full on. The difference is when rolling them back the highs are rolled off more "gradually". Where before the pot would get to a point and roll off the highs all at once. This is my experience so far.

Looking on the Sozo website, they talk about a "break in" period. Does this hold true for this application in guitars as it does for amps? Can I expect the tone to improve the more I play it?

Also on their website they state, refering to polarity, "For tone control circuits it is not as simple to define the signal in and signal out terminals of the capacitor. Tone control circuits operate with significant AC voltages across them. For the case where one end of the capacitor is grounded [simple treble cut circuit] the rule breaks down. The signal source should not be connected to the outside foil in this case; the outside foil should be connected to ground".

The way I currently have them oriented is with the outside foil (the end with the line) towards the volume pot. Please excuse my ignorance, but is this towards ground?

OTOH, A lot of people say it does not matter which way they are installed, because in this application we are dealiing with small AC voltages. :?
